On October 6th, 2007 The Chihuahua Club of America voted to disqualify merles. It passed.
The announcement of the disqualification of showing merle Chihuahuas was made at the CCA general membership meeting in Chicago. AKC will set the effective date when the revised standard comes to them, and they will publish it in the Gazette.
MERLE CHIHUAHUAS HAVE NOW BEEN BANNED FROM BEING SHOWN IN THE U.S., CANADA, AND ENGLAND.

We have always been convinced that introduction of the merle gene to our lines would not be breeding for the betterment of the breed, and would cause unnecessary pain and suffering to future pups. We have never and will never introduce the Merle gene into our lines.

We can’t stress it enough... It is YOUR responsibility to research the Chihuahua breed and breeders! Just type your question into Google. There is LOTS of information on any question you may have. Yes, there are differing opinions and it’s hard to figure out just what to believe sometimes. But research, research, research... then visit! A breeder that does not want you to visit their home or kennel has something to hide... BE CAREFUL.
*Note: Do not confuse this with the breeder that asks you to respect the well-being of their animals by staying away from nursing mama’s, and removing your shoes so you don’t carry in harmful germs to the unvaccinated little ones.
**One more note: Please respect the property and the lives of the breeders that you visit. Schedule a visit and show up promptly. Keep in mind that the breeder has a life.
Come visit us! The gang loves company! After they get done with their greeting of barking, you will find that they are quiet and very friendly. They are healthy and happy. The way that all Chihuahuas should be! We are here to answer your questions... and to ask you questions... you have the responsibility to check us out and we have the responsibility to check you out. We will never knowingly allow one of our furbabies to leave here with anyone that does not understand the fragility of a toy breed puppy and that does not have the well-being of the puppy as a priority.

AKC = American Kennel Club
We believe the American Kennel Club to be the ONLY reliable source for identifying purebred dogs. We will not breed dogs that are not registered with the AKC.
Any shyster can collect your money on the internet and print you up a “certificate” of registration to their dog club or association. Some of these places are just rip-off artists that perpetuate the scam to have dogs “registered” after they have been denied by the AKC because they are not proven purebred. Make sure that your puppies “papers” aren’t funny papers!
FYI: There is now a test (for those willing to invest a lot of money) that will determine with 99 percent accuracy, the lineage of a puppy... to tell if it’s really a purebred pup or not.
But next best, is the AKC requirement for DNA testing of studs. Test results can always be manipulated, and there will never be a 100% fool-proof method to prove the lineage of a pup. But at least the AKC is doing their best. And we are doing our best, to ensure that you have a purebred puppy that will be all that a Chihuahua should be and that will give you many healthy years of joy.

Read the AKC standard for the Chihuahua here...
There are no breed classifications for ANYTHING other than smooth or long coat Chihuahuas period. And since all colors are acceptable, there are NO rare colors.
The correct terminology for Chihuahua size is “Toy” -
Any Chihuahua, any size - they are a toy breed.
Cutsie little names and flashy terminology are nothing more than a play to your emotions to bilk you out of money! There are occasionally, chihuahua pups that appeal more to one person than another, you especially like smooth coats, or long coats, or a teeny dog, or a larger Chi that will be better with children, etc... but for whatever your idea of a “perfect” Chihuahua; it boils down to the fact that everyone has a right to their opinion, but don’t be gullible. Don’t fall for “teacup”, “micro”, “tiny toy”, “rare”, etc.
Multitudes of people seeking “teacup” Chihuahuas have been bilked for unreasonable fees, just to obtain the runt of the litter, and in a high percentage of these cases... the sick runt!
We occasionally get pups that are smaller than average size... but we don’t aim for that. Our aim is to produce happy HEALTHY pets!
